THE PAEDIATRICS DEPARTMENT

The Department of Pediatrics has grown to great strength over the years, and we now have 31 residents, who work with the attending to do ward rounds, care for patients, do journal clubs, and do research, as well as run the out patient clinics

The Acute Care Unit sees over 300 patients daily, and some of the OPD clinics like the pediatrics HIV Clinic sees up to 150 patients daily, we have over 740 receiving free ART

The wards are divided into 7 sub-units namely:

  • Acute care unit.
  • Special care unit.
  • Mwanamugimu Nutrition Unit.
  • Jeliffee A/C
  • Stanfield.
  • PIDC
Ward teaching covers:
  • History taking
  • Physical examination.
  • Case presentation, discussion and write up.

  • Malaria
  • Pneumonia
  • Diarrhea
  • Severe anaemia
  • Malnutrition.
  • Meningitis.
  • Tuberculosis
  • Neonatal septicaemia
  • Helminth infestations
  • HIV infections.
Others:
  • Neonatal Tetanus
  • Measles
  • Asthma
  • Bronchitis
  • Sickle cell Anaemia
  • Cardiac.
