The Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health is run by Psychiatrists, a Medical Sociologist, social workers, Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatric Clinical officers, Nursing officers, Medical Health assistants and other support staff.

The unit works in close collaboration with the Butabika Mental Hospital and other institutes like the Institute of Psychology and Makerere Institute of Social Research.

They provide curative services which include Out-patient Specialist Clinics in General Adult Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent clinic, Old age Psychiatry, Drug and substance abuse, and Mood disorder clinic.

Emergency Psychiatric services daily in the Accident and Emergency unit as well as Mental Health unit. They also provide Occupational Therapy with the Department of Occupational Therapy
