This department has several subspecialty firms/units. The firms/units handle different health issues, which require surgery and are managed by teams of senior consultant surgeons, doctors and other health personnel.

Some of the firms under the department include; Central Surgical firms, Urology unit, Neurosurgery unit, Paediatric surgery, Cardiothoracic/ Vascular unit, Colo-rectol unit, Hepato-billary unit, Burns unit, Plastic unit and Theatres.

Being responsible for 9 operating theatres, the departmental main theatres on average operate about 280-350 patients per month.

The types of operation range form simple Hernia operations to complex ones like Laparoscopic choleycystectomy, Retrosternal goiters and Abdominal-perennial operations.
Heart surgeries like Aortic Aneurysm are performed. Currently, the department is training about 15 postgraduate students in surgery.Other cadres on training are Theatre nurses, Theatre assistants and Paramedical health workers.
